With my old HP 6P, I got a whole lot more pages per cartridge, though of course I paid about 1.5x more for the higher capacity C3903A 4000 page toner cartridge. I also print out a lot of graphic intensive web pages, which uses up a lot of ink. That is less than half of the advertised 1500 pages that HP says you should get with each #35A toner cartridge, though that is probably using their ECONO mode, which I do not. It says I have about 475 pages left of toner usage, which is a total of only 635 8.5x11" pages. I don't print that much, and have only printed out about 160 pages so far in one months' time period. With WinXP and Win7, no such problems were encountered.

I reran the W98 install procedure again, and this time everything went smoothly.
So that all the relevant W98 printer install files were in one place, I created an "HP_P1005 drivers" directory on the C: drive, and transfered this file, an additional "usbprint.sys" file, and the other "W9XENGLISH" Install CD directory files to it.

If you don't have access to an older W98 computer with this file on it, you could try copying it from a WinXP machine in the "Windowssystem32" directory, and see if that updated XP dll file would work under Windows 98? Copy it to your Win98 "Windowssystem" folder. There's now extra room on my desk for documents, papers, etc.! I have even set one up on a friends' computer running Win98SE, though it wouldn't initially install because the CD install program said it was missing a 'usbmon.dll' file.įortunately, I was able to find this file from an old Win98 computer hard drive I had lying around. It's the nicest and most compact modern LaserJet printer that I know of. Prints pages much, much faster than my old ailing mono HP LaserJet 6P model. Am using it with WinXP and also Windows 7. Inexpensive to buy, especially if you can find a new one on sale like I did on eBay! Have had no trouble with it so far. Unit works great! Text is clear and sharp.

Its not as fast as COMMERCIAL or INDUSTRIAL Laser Printers but for Home use this is a great product! Read full review Its refreshingly easy to use and for my current standards of living and productivity the HP LaserJet P1005 is worth every penny, I feel this investment will help my throughout my student (career) studies and I highly recommend this product for anyone who needs simple text or black-and-white documents -and loads of them, within a short period of time.
The package DOES NOT come with a USB CABLE so you'll have to purchase an appropriate one. Its slightly larger than my previous printers, weighs roughly 8-10 pounds, and folds up conveniently when the paper tray isn't in use (even then you can put the paper on top and close it when you're not using it at all!). Its extremely affordable, works like a charm, gets my word documents done within seconds and better yet: the starter cartridge that came with the packaging is stated to produce roughly 700 pages worth of documents -that's more then I've EVER printed from Home use over the years! One of the neat features I like about the product is its compact design for a Laser Printer. Its actually quite remarkable how much more efficient I've become with this printer -I really don't know how I've gone so long without one! If you're looking to print just black-and-white or just plain documents I highly recommend this printer.
When it is left of stand-by the printer responds within seconds and documents are produced with clear and crisp text within milliseconds. The LaserJet handles the workloads with ease and with a quick warm-up time from being powered off it can produce a document within 45 seconds. The setup is like any other printer setup and is extremely easy to setup I do have to caution that for first time setups the DIRECTIONS SHOULD BE CONSULTED!
The printer is extremely economical, cheap, and does exactly what its supposed to do with ease. To be honest, it was exactly what I needed with the amount of paperwork that needed to be written and then subsequently printed and additionally the course documents that needed to be printed and reviewed. At the time of purchase I was still in school as the final weeks of the quarter were coming to a wrap and since has become an in-disposable tool for school work and just plain letter/ text drafts.
